Well, i never thought that i would run a contest and have trouble getting the winner to collect the prize. I emailed, attempted to call the winner, tried to friend them on LinkedIn and even sent a $1 via paypal to try to reach them. As stated in the rules, failure to reply by May 31st results in the prize being given to the alternate.

The alternate prize winner is from Illinois and we have emailed them at both addresses we have for them.

I’ve emailed, telephoned and even tried to connect via LinkedIn with the winner of the Earth Day drawing. Today i sent $1 to the paypal account that the winner used to purchase our offsets. If they don’t respond before 23:59, EDT May 31st, the prize will be awarded to our alternate winner.

We will draw 2 random numbers, the first number is row of the winning entry in our spreadsheet of valid entries. The second number is the alternate winner. if on June 1st 2009, the winner cannot be found or is unwilling to complete the required process (providing legal ID) to collect the prize, the alternate winner will be given the $5000 cash prize.

In order to ensure that a fair, random drawing is used to determine the winner of the 4Offsets’ 1 Million Website contest, we are undertaking these steps:

1. collect a list of all members who own carbon offset certificates.
2. remove all members who are

1. Employees or Investors in 4Offsets
2. Members who received complementary or “promotional” offsets, without paying

3. add all “snail” mail entries.

4. list of entries in the spreadsheet is sorted by certificate number/random 10 digit number.
5. A random number, between 1 thru the total number of entries, will be generated and the winner will be the entry located on that line of the the spreadsheet.

2. ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: 1 additional entry is awarded to every registered member for each Offset package purchased. Note: each certificate represents a single offset package

4. ELIGIBILITY: The 1 Million Offsets contest is offered to all adults, worldwide. Winners must provide a government issued photo id from their country of residency. Residents of the United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada must furnish a valid US, UK or Canadian and social security/tax number are required to collect the prize. Additionally the winner agrees to allow 4Offsets, llc to use their name and likeness in company promotions. This offer is void in jurisdictions where any of these rules contradict local law.
